Poem: I am not dead

I am not dead
(Peter HM)

I am not dead, I live, but you
Know not this world of mine.
I live but cannot prove to you
What you cannot divine.

For you have not my world endured,
As I your world have lived.
I speak in languages unknown
Of things at best believed.

How can I best thus demonstrate
The unknown to the known?
How can I hope to revelate
This song I call my own?

Through measures deep and vast and wide
As mind could contemplate.
There is no thought so deep and high
As that which I now state.

And what is that? It's this, my friend:
That death is life in full,
And life is full of death until
You know not death at all!

So close we are, my friend, to you;
We touch as wind the night
This lonely life of Earth of yours
With samplings of the light!

With orbs eccentrically endowed
We cast our visitations.
All about you we alight
With spirit presentations.

Soft we still our lives on you
And cast out light for sure.
Yet never can the clouds instill
The rains which spirits pour.

I am! But I am not as you
Imagine me to be.
You are the shore of human life
And I your human sea.

Wash against me once awhile,
And feel my spirit tide.
While gone, I love you more than ever,
Though death us two divide.

Feel the wind, the rain, the sun,
The grass on you, my friend.
For though the seasons die, I know
Our love will never end!
