Evidence of the Afterlife

There are a few areas that are at the very least thought-provoking, but that are considered to be compelling evidence that our consciousness continues on after physical death and that there is a whole other world 'beyond the veil' after we transition.

Near Death Experiences

NDEs occur at a time when the person is so physically compromised that they are typically unconscious, comatose, or clinically dead. People from all kinds of different backgrounds who experience it, an estimated 17% of those who nearly die, report highly lucid experiences apart from the physical body, that are clear and logically structured. This article talks about 9 lines of evidence to support the reality of NDEs. Scroll down to find an overview of the most commonly reported experiences and what they tell us about the afterlife.
Past Life Memories

Another area carrying compelling evidence backed up by extensive research is about children recalling details of a past life. There are veryfiable cases where extraordinary details came up about a person who has actually lived or even birthmarks matching the fatal wounds of that person. This kind of research offers interesting validation to the idea that consciousness may not die when we do. The cases of James Leininger, Ryan Hammons and Jenny Cockell may be some of the most impressive and famous ones. You can read more details about the topic here.
Visitations and interventions

These two topics stand out for me personally, but are currently mostly based on anecdotal evidence. The first one are cases where family members or friends of loved ones report dreaming about, getting a vision or seeing an apparition of a particular person, to only afterwards of the passing of this person right around that specific moment. Secondly, there are many stories of people report 'hearing a voice' that urged them to (not) do something or witnessed an 'unexplicable intervention', this way avoiding a horrible accident.

Witness Reports from the other side

Many researchers have worked on afterlife topics and several interesting books have been published reporting on the details of Near Death Experiences (NDE) and Life Between Lives (LBL) Regression Hypnotherapy. Looking into thousands and thousands of anecdotes has revealed fascinating communalities.

Much like witness reports in case of accidents or crimes, when all witnesses recant the same overall storyline, it tells investigators something about what really transpired. When some smaller details are slightly different, it's not unusual because of our different personalities and interpretations, but when the overall storyline remains the same, if told by 10 or 100 different people, that's where it becomes interesting. And when thousands all agree on a few very similar big ideas, the value and level of evidence of what's being recanted becomes powerful evidence.

Typical NDEs occur under general anesthesia or when people were unconscious and saved because of a (medical) intervention, these are times when conscious experiences should be impossible.

Thousands of stories about NDEs, matching narratives from regression therapy subjects and 30 years of research have come up with some interesting common aspects that tell us something about what the afterlife is like:

The afterlife according to NDE experiences

* Life after death feels more real: Interestingly, when usually unconscious or clinically dead, people report a level of consciousness and alertness that's usually greater than what is experienced right now.

* People experiencing an NDE usually go through an out-of-body-experience (OBE), in which they can see themselves or others in the room, or even see and hear people elsewhere. What they see others doing or what they overheard is afterwards often verified as real and accurate. Afterwards, they go through a dark tunnel or valley, then enter into an extremely beautiful surrounding.

* Often they are greeted by relatives and friends who are deceased. Sometimes, the individual may not even be aware about a certain person's passing at this point, only to get it confirmed afterwards. In some cases people report meeting 'a being of light', but all experience overwhelming feelings of serenity, bliss and love.

* There's also a life review, in which real events from the NDEers' life are revisited or replayed, even if they may have been forgotten. It shows how their actions, good and bad, have impacted others. Most importantly, they all say it is not at all judgemental - nobody is judging these decisions and actions as this life is mostly all about the learning experience - but usually it's the person themselves who feel remorseful about any negative actions.

* Of course, they all have to come back to the earth plane. Sometimes, NDEers are given a choice and are asked if they want to stay or go back. Others are simply told they must go back because it's not their time.
